How long before the birth of our child do we have to make an appointment?

The first preventive examination (U3) takes place 3-4 weeks after delivery. So you can make an initial appointment for the U3 shortly before the birth or shortly afterwards. Of course, you can also come to us with any questions you may have before your first check-up. Simply make an appointment for the newborn consultation.

What is meant by newborn consultation?

The newborn consultation deals with all questions and illnesses in the newborn period. Since our practice focuses on newborn medicine (neonatology), we offer special consultation hours on topics such as breastfeeding, supplementary feeding, newborn jaundice, sleep disorders, colic, skin irritations, etc.

How do I make an appointment?

You can make appointments either via Doctolib, by phone on 0211 6799599 or by email info@kinderaerztin-duesseldorf.de. Please note that there are different appointments for different concerns, e.g. preventative care appointments, consultation appointments, blood collection appointments, etc.

Is there parking nearby and can I leave the stroller?

There is a parking lot 350m away (Park & Ride Staufenplatz). You can view the route on our homepage under “Contact”. Strollers can be left in front of the practice entrance and there is a stroller-accessible elevator in the building.

What should I have with me when visiting a pediatrician?

Accepted Answer

Precautionary booklet, vaccination certificate, something cuddly to put under and wrap yourself around, a change of clothes, your favorite toy.

At what temperature does my child have a fever and when do I need to see a pediatrician?

Accepted Answer

A child's normal body temperature is around 37 degrees Celsius. From a temperature of around 37.5 to 38 degrees it is referred to as fever. You should see your pediatrician if the fever is due to reasons other than a simple cold or if it persists for a long period of time.

Can I see a pediatrician if I have an earache, skin irritation or conjunctivitis?

We pediatricians can be the primary contact for all of your children's illnesses. It is not always necessary, for example, to go to an ENT doctor if you have an earache, a dermatologist if you have skin irritations or an ophthalmologist if you have conjunctivitis. We are in close contact with colleagues from all disciplines.

Do I have to go to the practice with my sick child to get a “children’s health certificate”?

Accepted Answer

According to current regulations, you do not have to come to the practice in person. It is sufficient if you request the certificate of incapacity for work by telephone or email. However, if the severity of the disease makes this necessary, we recommend an introduction.

Do I have to present a medical certificate for school or kindergarten?

Accepted Answer

Parents are usually allowed to report their children sick to school and kindergarten independently and without a time limit, i.e. even longer than 3 days. As a rule, no medical certificate is required for this. However, some schools require medical certificates before or after the holidays.

What is diarrhea and when do I need to take my child to the doctor?

Accepted Answer

Diarrhea is usually a virus-related illness with the symptom of frequent stools (4-6 times per day) that are very soft or liquid. Such illnesses may be accompanied by vomiting and fever, especially in younger children.

Can hearing and vision tests be performed in the pediatrician's office?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we carry out hearing and vision tests as part of the U8 and U9 preventive examinations. We can also perform a vision screening test for children under one year old.

Up to what age can patients see a pediatrician? Can parents also be treated?

Accepted Answer

Patients with statutory health insurance can see a pediatrician up to the age of 18. We can also look after privately insured patients or self-payers after the age of 18, for example parents who are also ill. We see ourselves as “family doctors”.

Can parents also be vaccinated in the practice?

Accepted Answer

Yes, in our practice we also offer and recommend vaccinations for parents. Parents often no longer have vaccination protection, which could endanger infants who have not yet been fully vaccinated.

What are “self-pay” or “IGeL” services?

Accepted Answer

Self-pay or IGeL services are services that statutory health insurance companies do not cover or do not cover in full. These services can be used as self-payers or are covered by private health insurance companies. What should I do if the pediatrician's office is closed and my child is sick?

Accepted Answer

Depending on the severity of your child's illness, you have two options: you can either wait and contact us during our opening hours or, in an emergency, go to the emergency clinic on Kronenstrasse (in the Evangelical Hospital building) by 11 p.m. Alternatively, you have the option of visiting the emergency departments of the children's clinics in Düsseldorf. Please note, however, that they are only your contacts for the most serious illness situations and after midnight.

What is an electronic prescription?

Accepted Answer

From 2024, all prescriptions will be issued electronically and automatically stored on your health insurance card. You have the option of picking up the prescribed medication directly from the pharmacy of your choice without having to return to the pediatrician's office. Repeat prescriptions can also be transferred directly to your card as long as they have already been read in the current quarter.
